Gut feel is just another way to describe intuitive
style thinking. We often employ that style of thinking when there isn’t time
for detailed analysis to support a rational outcome as in so called rational
thinking. Both give us added confidence when they are in sync. Our gut thinking
then can act as a warning bell, to confirm or guide us as we choose. Meditative
thinking is usually thinking very deeply about something or a text or anything for
that matter to enter deeper states or to become more aware or it might simply
aim at not thinking at all. It could involve initial observation of a beautiful
piece of art, say a painting, which we meditate over and observe what we
otherwise might not see. We might start thinking about the painting, in a state
where it is displayed in a gallery, to meditate over it while standing in front
of it, then walk away from it while thinking about it.
Hence, I believe all thinking is circular. We can
move in and out of rational to intuitive to meditative thinking as in
different states of consciousness which means different things (a differing
definition) as we move in or out of them. There are various mental and
spiritual benefits associated with meditation.
