Another the Open Doors Diamond Valley choir is currently singing which now has a repertoire of over 70 songs listed below after only just over a year. The list was kindly provided to me by Bryan. The lyrics above are about the French Revolution ?.
"I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own"
"I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead long live the king"
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead long live the king"
"One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
and I discovered that my castles stand
upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand"
"I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
Missionaries in a foreign field"
"For some reason I can't explain Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
Missionaries in a foreign field"
Once you'd gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world"
"It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become"
"Revolutionaries
wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?"
"For
some reason I can't explain For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?"
I know St Peter won't call my name"
Never an honest word
Songs in our repertoire.

Quite an impressive list.
Impressive even to remember the words to that many songs.
Personally, I like the number of Simon & Garfunkel tunes in the repertoire. Some interesting choices.
This seems like a format that would be interesting to score. I can see the use of vocal swells, hocketing, and layering as enlivening an arrangement.
I knew a fellow that was into barbershop several years ago, but I was more interested in the use of extended chords in horn arrangements at the time.
I listen mostly to bossa nova these days, some samba; so I have very little in the way of recommendations for you.
Though I will say that "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel seems a natural for a choir.
Regards,
Hi Mercutio
Thanks for your interest and we tried out "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel to night and it worked a treat!!
Best wishes
Quite an impressive playlist. I grew up listening to most of those songs, and they all bring fond memories of my childhood. My father was, and still is, a very good singer, and I have great memories of him singing along to many of those same songs in your repertoire.
Hi Nova,
Interesting to note you grew up listening to most of those songs, and pleased to hear they all bring back fond memories of your childhood. We have something in common as my father was also a very good singer. A while back I left a comment on your BLOG covering 2 posts but it hasn't appeared,so I will reiterate here. I was delighted to hear under your post entitled "chin up" 2016 was a much better year and you were able to undertake some travel and that I thought you exercised a sage approach to the social media pitch in the following post.
best wishes
It's a wonderful list of songs, Lindsay. I can hear myself singing a number of them (under my breath, that is, or just in the shower).
All the best
Hi Susan,
Good for you but maybe you could also sing 'Singing in in the rain" outside when the mood and the weather suits.
Best washes
