Old Caltex storage site at Balmain redeveloped
Once this area was a Caltex fuel storage facility close to the city of Sydney at Balmain. The area has now been redeveloped into a picturesque park overlooking the Harbour.
One positive initiative of the NSW Labor Government was to refuse a proposed massive waterfront high density residential over this site. The Government refused the proposal and subsequently acquired the site which is now in public ownership for all to enjoy.
Make sure you visit this marvellous harbour site when in the area.
it's nice that they made the site into a park. everybody wants waterfront property, so it isn't surprising that somebody had a high-density project in mind. i'm glad there was the foresight to keep the land for the benefit of all. bravo.
you are correct about the cleopatra coins, but perhaps very large "hooked" noses were considered beautiful in her time. standards of beauty have changed considerably over the centuries. indeed, even in different parts of the today's world, there are varying opinions on what is considered beautiful.

beauty for ashes
There should be much more of this kind of redevelopment.
btw: The two of you add a lot of elegance to the setting.
it will be very pretty when the landscaping grows in. trees, water and picnics go together.
you looks great in the pics.

It's hard to imagine it being anything other than what it is now. Cheers to development. =]

Thanks you all for your interest and comments.
Julie – A wonderful result!
Sera – Already it feels very natural and inviting.
Susan – I agree – somewhat of a rarity
Nova – a clever design.
Best wishes
It's beautiful.
Deserving of verse, I should say.
