DEBRA BYRNE SINGS "WITH ONE LOOK!" (Sunset Boulevard)

Occasionally a singer ‘owns’ a song as it seems no one else can bring that unique powerful vocal interpretation into play; an emotional strength aptly befitting the words. I think this is true of Debra Byrne but you can judge that for yourself by listening to her version. Debra is a singers singer.
Debra in my view is streets ahead of her contemporaries whose qualities and vocalizations may be superior at times but are no match to her talent  evident in this recording..

Not an easy piece to put over and Debra Byrne does it credit.

I gather this recording is something special. Glad you both enjoy it, truly. I just wish my hearing wasn't so shot to pieces.

Hi Tom & Halle,
To recap the song was from the stage show Sunset Boulevard, which was about a fictional Norma Desmond’s failure to win over audiences when she appeared in the ‘talkies. Norma represented a number of film stars of that era. As you may recall that was the twilight years for some of those notable stars of the silent era, who did not make it in the new found era of the talkies
So the song recalls the glory days when she was able, with just one look, to capture an audience’s imagination like no one else, when words were not needed. Debra puts so much emotion into the song one can feel the anticipation of Norma, defiant in her aim to win over an audience, just as as she had in the past.
But it was no to be.
Best wishes

I love music from those bygone days. They really just do not make music like they used to do. Contemporary music just does not have the same passion and feeling.

Thanks for sharing.
