Early morning rain gave way to light drizzle bringing a welcome relief from endless days of heat. Our friendly Kookaburra who is very tame, allowed me to walk up within arms length to take these pictures. He
enjoyed a tasty morcel beside me on the ground.

I had to smile when I saw your pics, Lindsay. I was out taking photos with my new camera today and got a few shots of my friendly kookaburras here, which I intend to put up on my blog over the next couple of days, too! lol They are great birds...I love them. When I call my cats, they plus the maggies and butcher birds come as well. One of the kookaburras flew inside the other day. The magpies walk into my back area...no fear...and the cats ignore them.

Love those kookas! And wasn't the sound of rain on the roof welcome!

I don't think I have ever seen a picture of a kookaburra close up like that. Australia has some really interesting animals.

A heat wave? Sigh... It snowed here yesterday.

Sigh.

How fortunate! When in Mexico recently, the village I stayed in is next to a mangrove park with several hundred species of birds. I'm not a birder so don't know what I saw, but I saw many lovely and new (to me) birds.

I'm smiling as well. There's something about a kookaburra that does it every time.

Trust all are doing well. I've been away from reading much longer than I intended.

Hi Lee, Val, Josie, Gary & Granny
Thankyou for your comments. The Kookaburra is a member of the Kingfisher bird species; renowned for its amazing laugh.

Lee -some great picture too!

Val -A sweeter sound I ever heard, the sound of rain on our roof!!

Josie - Snow and heat waves -both equally difficult –nice in between.

Gary welcome back

Granny -Nice to see you back commenting

Best wishes

Thanks for your comment on my blog (about security laws in Canada). Inspired me to post on it. Got me out of my Mexican fog (which is a nice fog nonetheless).

Someone here has finally noticed the abuse of power by our FBI. Heads are rolling. Unfortunately the little guys fall on their swords while the neo-cons go merrily on.

How cool! When I was 12, we had a teachers intern (how would you call that in english?) in my class back in the Netherlands and he taught us a song in english (!) called "Kookaburra".
"Kookaburra lives in old blank tree
Merry Merry King of the Bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra Laugh, Kookaburra gay your life must be!"

See? I still remember after 31yrs (ahem) except for one word. I have no clue what kind of tree that was supposed to be..
that little guy does have a pretty impressive beak..who knew??lol (I didn't)
