My dear friend, I am so sorry to read this devastating news. The service was just beautiful, from the lovely wicker coffin, to the placing of the guitar and other items she cherished, to the eulogies from you, her sisters, and Chris, to the picture show of every stage of her life and to the final scene of the white Hearst driving away, it was achingly beautiful, and yet there was that glimmer of life and hope knowing that she gave life back to NINE other souls with the gift of her organ donation. She was truly a beautiful and gifted soul, and with tears in my eyes, I send you my love and condolences for having lost your lovely little girl. There just are no words for that kind of devastating loss.
I wanted to ask, that song, The Black Hills of Dakota - was there a particular significance of that song to her?
Love,
Nova
Hi Nova,
Many thanks for your thoughts that are very much appreciated.
Nicla was very emotional when she gave her eulogy and you may have missed her very brief reference to the first song that she taught Rachael - at barely 2 years of age – The Black Hills of Dakota.
That song was featured in the musical “Calamity Jane” where I had a principle role with the local Musical Society. So I started singing it to Nicla who then taught Rachael. The early photos on the slide show were all around that time, so we decided to include the Black Hills tune as a reminder of those early days and how easily Rachael picked up the tunes. later on Nicla and Rachael used to sing 'Oh what a Beautiful Morning' from Oklahoma too.
Best wishes
