What a lovely collection.

Three questions: Does your choir sing in unison? Do you sing a capella at all? Do you memorize your parts?

Lindsay Byrnes said...

Hi Halle,
The answer to the first 2 questions is rarely and yes we memoriize our musical parts as in tenor, bass, sops etc. But we don't have to memorize the words since they are projected onto the rear wall or screen behind the audience and our conductor during a concert. You might be interested to know we learn our musical parts by not only listening to the music but more so directly from our accomplished conductor who even sings the soprano line in falsetto to us. He is the arranger of the musical pieces and so is very familliar with all of the parts and changes in key and so forth. He can play the different recorded parts and then concentrate on the more difficult passages and sing those parts back to us. Hence there is no need for the choir members to be able to read music. The words to the various parts of course differ in time intervals which are colour coded on the screen. So, of course, he encourages us to try and remember the words to ensure we concentrate on keeping our eyes on him conducting.
Best wishes

that's an impressive list!! I'm gearing up for the annual Valentine's day harp gig.... my list isn't nearly so impressive. Your conductor is wonderfully accomplished; you all seem to have all of the angles figured out!

Hi Gfid,
He has a lifelong aptitude to performing and more recently in conducting choirs so we are indeed very fortunate.
I’ m sure the gig will be another success for you and trust it all goes off well.
best wishes
