Sound Recordings of my Father in Concert with the RAAF Glee Singers 1943

Further to my Australia Day posting I have now obtained a copy of the original sound recordings of the RAAF Glee Singers who performed at a concert in Australia House, on Australia Day, in London in 1943!

The sound recordings were obtained for me kindly from the Australian War Memorial and to listen click here. Click on any of the songs listed.

As previously mentioned my father served as a bomber pilot in the Second World War and the group photos (in my previous post) of the RAAF Glee Singers was taken directly from the Australian War Museum archives. Read more here

That was very sweet to hear. It's amazing just how much things have changed in such a short time.

I was impressed by the sound quality and warmth of tone. Did all seven of them sing at once, or did certain singers go for certain tunes?
One aspect I found especially delightful was the selection of material. If you have any anecdotes regarding this, I would love to hear them.

This is soo super-cool, if you know what I mean.
Very nice singing! I like Mosquito...
Did you put this page up at Facebook yourself - Lindsay?
Also, thanks for the "Easter egg" comment.

Hi lee, River Valley, 鄭明宏 , Susan, Mecutio & Zee - many thanks for your comments
Lee. Indeed after all these years to finally listen to the recordings was incredible.
Susan - change is the only constant! What a difference to today !
Mecutio - I think they individually combined to sing 4 part beautiful harmonies with the occasional breaks when you hear just one voice. Apart from the selection representing what was popular at that time in wartime I don’t know much else about their song selections.
Zee I know exactly what you mean by saying these recordings were so super-cool. My youngest Daughter Rachael put this page up at Face book.
Best wishes

maybe it was the war, or because it was a 'previous' generation, but the singing is very sincere. one can feel the earnestness and honesty even despite the crackling noises. thou wilt keep him in perfect peace is my favorite performance of the set. thank you for sharing that, lindsay.
